3️⃣Once you've folded your book -- get creative! We all need a little pick me up as we start the week, why not have some fun with this project. (Psst! This would be a great Father's Day project for kids!)

Let us know what you think about this tutorial! Does Monday not look so daunting? Ready to get through the rest of the week?

Steen Hjort has always loved working with his hands. He strives to bring out the beauty in all his projects whether it be restoring an old British motorcycle, an antique car, or more recently working with wood.

He took up wood turning ten years ago when he was slowly losing the ability to walk and do heavy physical

work. Wood turning gave him an outlet for his creativity. He loves to explore the different designs and forms for the humble wooden bowl. The possibilities seem endless. He feels encouraged and grateful when someone lays out their hard earned cash to buy one of his creations.

"Woodturning is the craft of making objects in wood using a lathe and handheld tools. It takes a great deal of skill to become an accomplished woodturner. Today woodturning is one of the crafts experiencing renewed interest thanks to the maker revolution and resurgence of handmade".

Check out these beautiful pieces created by Steen!

From left to right: Bowl from cherry wood. Shallow bowl was made from the floor timbers that came out of the machine shop, where the original Ladysmith Waterfront gallery is located and currently under construction. This is a copy of a Viking bowl that have been found in bogs all over Scandinavia.

Ready for a double dose of art!

Let's get creative this week with TWO art projects.

Grab your paint brushes and paint and create a beautiful painting. We used a heart shape for this project but you can use whatever shape you want. You can do this project on canvas, a piece of cardboard or a rock from your garden.

Next, try your hand at cut out animation! Animator Tracy Lewis will walk you through how to create cut out animation and introduce you to a FREE app through the National Film Board to get you started on your animation journey!
