From the moment Ellen first held an artist brush and brushed paint around, she knew she had found something powerful that she had to pursue and explore. Working out of her home studio in Ladysmith, Ellen is always experimenting and nurturing her desire to create.

In a blog post on her website, (How I Became An Artist), Ellen recalls that her interest in art started when she was just a young girl, fondly remembering the time she spent in a school art class as highly enjoyable. Despite her lifelong love of creating, Ellen's art career didn't start until after she retired.

Her paintings are influenced by music and the result shows up on her large size canvases and cradle boards in a style best-described as abstract expressionism. Her art is her own personal language, exposed through painting and looking for connection.

Ellen typically works with limited palettes, blue often being the colour that she gravitates toward. Using various tools, brushes, and unusual items along with scraping, gouging, layering, and sometimes sanding - this often results in unique outcomes.

"Every day I learn more about both my art and myself which helps me create authentic, meaningful and exciting abstract expressionist art."

(Ellen Brandson, How I Became An Artist).

Ellen Brandson Unleashed runs from June 27th - July 6th. Open 10AM - 4PM daily at the Ladysmith Gallery.
