About the Event

Documenting your artwork well is just as important as creating it. High-quality photographs allow you to share your work online, submit to galleries, build your portfolio, and promote your art professionally. But you don’t need expensive equipment—your phone can do the job beautifully if you know how to use it.

In this 4-hour hands-on course, you’ll learn how to capture accurate, professional-looking images of your artwork using just your smartphone. We’ll cover everything from lighting and composition to eliminating glare, achieving true-to-life colours, and simple editing techniques. You’ll also learn practical setup tips for photographing different mediums—whether it’s a canvas, sculpture, or mixed media piece.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll feel confident creating consistent, high-quality copywork that showcases your art at its best.

What You’ll Learn:

  • How to set up your artwork for photographing (flat work, textured surfaces, and 3D pieces)

  • Best practices for natural vs. artificial lighting

  • Simple tricks to minimize glare and distortion

  • Achieving accurate colour and detail with your phone

  • Easy editing workflows for professional results

  • Tips for preparing images for web, social media, and print

This course is designed for artists of all mediums who want to take professional-quality images of their work without investing in a full studio setup. No prior photography experience required.

NOTE

**Please download the free Snapseed editing app before class. It is a good idea to bring you charger to class as well. Make sure you have ample storage space on your phone prior to class.**

About Sandy Weatherall, Creative Commercial Photographer

Teaching photography is one of my greatest joys!

I love seeing lightbulbs go on and watching my students grow.

I have students who have gone on to successful careers and even have work in National Geographic Magazine.

Mostly, we just have an awesome fun time learning, exploring and creating!
