About the Event
Come join the parade! In this workshop you will be guided through the process of building large, parade-ready puppets. Under the guidance of professional theatre designer, Heather J Kent, participants will work collaboratively to build a series of puppets in small groups and learn how to put together a parade. With this new skillset, you'll be able to share the fun of parade puppets with your own organization, club, or school! This workshop is ideal for anyone with a curiosity and desire to create collaboratively and engage in the spectacular! Puppet-building materials will be provided, and you are invited to gather items from home or the thrift shop to help costume and decorate your group's puppet (to be discussed in class).
We'll be building and learning to manipulate our puppets in groups of two to three. Sign up as a family or a group of friends, or sign up as an individual and meet some new friends! Participants under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
About the instructor: Heather J Kent is a local educator and artist living on Vancouver Island. She has been working in and teaching theatre production for over 25 years. Her passion for puppetry arts and spectacle informs her visual arts practice and assemblages. Regardless of the selected medium, Heather is a storyteller who loves to collaborate and share ideas with other artists.
