Paper Theatres Spring Break Camp 2026

Dive into the world of paper theatre as you learn to build 3D paper objects, develop unique characters, and craft compelling stories. Through hands-on puppetry and performance, you'll discover how movement, intention, and tension bring a narrative to life.

About the Event

This camp will take you into the magical world of paper theatres. Participants will build their own paper theatre, puppets and scenery, and devise a story to play out in their paper world! They will learn all about how to produce a play with scenery, backdrops, props and whatever else can be imagination. They will learn about character development, story structure and how to devise a full theatrical play, using a small paper theatre. In other words, while playing with simple materials, a theatrical story will come to life and play, using a small paper theatre.

Appropriate for ages 8-12

Monday - Friday, 9:30- 2:30


Materials:

All basic materials will be provided however if a students wants a specific item for their puppetry performance that is not provided by the instructor (i.e. a particular prop or material for production, etc.) these would be provided by the student.


Short Bio:

Heather J Kent is a local educator, theatre and visual artist living on Vancouver Island. She has been working and teaching in theatre production for over 25 years. Her passion for puppetry arts and spectacle informs her visual arts practice. Regardless of her medium Heather is story teller who loves to collaborate and share ideas with other artists


Note:


If your child requires additional one-on-one support, they are welcome to attend with a responsible helper arranged by the parent/guardian. On a case-by-case basis, providing a responsible helper may be a requirement for participation. Please contact the education coordinator at education@ladysmitharts.ca or 250-245-1252 to discuss the unique needs of your child.
