About the Event

Already familiar with the basics of oil painting and ready to grow your skills in a supportive, creative environment? This 6-week intermediate course, led by artist Tylor, is designed for painters who want to deepen their technical understanding and develop their personal style.

Each week, you’ll build on your existing foundation as you explore more advanced topics such as:

  • Developing dynamic compositions

  • Enhancing realism through value and colour temperature

  • Using glazing and scumbling techniques for depth and atmosphere

  • Exploring brushwork and palette knife effects

  • Creating more expressive, intentional textures

  • Problem-solving during the painting process

With guided demos, personalized feedback, and plenty of hands-on practice, you’ll be encouraged to take creative risks and refine your unique artistic voice.

All materials are provided, so you can focus entirely on your growth as an artist. Ideal for those who’ve taken one of Tylor's beginner oil painting course previously or have some independent experience. Come explore, challenge yourself, and continue your journey in oils—with guidance and inspiration along the way!

Fridays, January 16th - February 20th, 2026, 4:00pm -6:00pm

About the Instructor:

Tylor McNeil is an Atlantic Canadian artist based on Vancouver Island. The core of his identity and the roots of his art remain deeply grounded in the East Coast values instilled during his upbringing, despite his relocation. Tylor received formal training at Mount Alison University in New Brunswick, and pursed art as a profession shortly after completing his training. Today, Tylor continues to create and grow his talents in florals, as well experimenting in plein air and natural landscapes.
