About the Event

In this course, taught by David Kaarsemaker, we are going to take a good look at colour. We’ll work through some of the assignments in Josef Albers’ classic 1963 text, the “Interaction of Color”. Albers believed that it was important to understand the elasticity of colour, how depending on the context in which it is applied, colour can be beguiling and deceptive. It will change according to its interaction with other hues. Here’s a fun quote from Albers: “Colour, in my opinion, behaves like man in two distinct ways: first in self-realization and then in realization with others.” David's aim is for students to gain a better understanding of colour and to find ways of incorporating this knowledge into their evolving painting language.
