About the Event
In this hands-on class, you’ll learn how to create beautiful fabric coil bowls using a simple yet striking technique. Each bowl is formed by making a continuous rope entirely from fabric. The fabric itself becomes the structure. Once your rope is created, you’ll stitch it into a spiral, slowly building and shaping your bowl. Throughout the process, you’ll discover how fabric choice, strip width, stitch selection, and gentle guiding all influence the final form. This is a slow, mindful method that allows the bowl to evolve naturally in your hands.
No two bowls will ever be the same and that is exactly the point. Each piece reflects your materials, your decisions, and your touch, resulting in a truly one-of-a-kind creation.
You are required to bring your own sewing machine with thread for this class. All other materials will be provided.
About the Instructor
Lorna Beecroft is a lifelong creative who loves working across many mediums, from pencil and clay to textiles and fibre to create both 2D and 3D art. Her fibre pursuits are functional, sculptural forms in textiles. Her fabric coil bowl workshops are welcoming, hands on, and beginner friendly, focusing on process, exploration, and enjoyment rather than perfection. Participants learn core techniques while creating a unique, practical bowl and discovering the quiet satisfaction of making something by hand.
