About the Event

Explore Penny's unique heart-led process in a supportive, passion-driven workshop, suitable for beginner to intermediate-level artists. Get guidance in basic sketching through mindful refinement of your work to draw pets with character and soul. Penny's intent is to meet each student exactly where they are and help them develop their practice in their own meaningful way. Be inspired by fellow pet lovers as you develop solid skills based on ingenuity, wit, and self-trust.

Bring the following materials with you:

  • Sketchbook with medium-weight, smooth paper
  • Graphite pencils of various hardnesses (Set of HB to 9B is ideal)
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Clean, kneaded eraser
  • Regular eraser
  • Ballpoint pens that are low on ink, plus at least one with plenty of ink
  • Plenty of clear, naturally-lit pet photos
  • A packed lunch, drink, and snacks

Optional but handy materials to bring:

  • Fine line erasers
  • Artist pens
  • Watercolour paints/supplies or drawing medium you want guidance with
  • Any pet-themed artwork in progress that you want guidance with

About the instructor: Penny is an internationally-known art educator with a lifetime of experience drawing critters.  Penny’s intent is to meet each student exactly where they are and help them develop their practice in their own meaningful way. Penny delights in rendering the nature of beloved pets through expressive linework and simple shading. She is intrigued by the similarities between humans and other animals.
