About the Event

If you're brand new to watercolour painting or are looking to get back into it after a long break, this class is for you. With a playful approach, it's enjoyable to learn the foundational techniques of watercolour. In this class, we will study brushwork, various washes, colour mixing and more. We will create small, well-designed paintings with clean, bright colours, and the emphasis will be on exploration rather than creating a finished painting. Classes will build upon each other, with a variety of subjects and themes. Join a fun, supportive group and enjoy each other's company while we explore basic techniques, experiment together, and build confidence. Choose from one of the two four-week terms. After you complete a four-week term, you'll be eligible to register for the experienced watercolour classes.

Recommended Materials List:

  • 140-lb watercolour paper, cold press (pad or sheets)

  • watercolour brushes (1-inch flat, number 8 round, number 12 flat)

  • watercolour paints (tube or pan set)

  • masking tape and flat board

  • palette plate or mixing dish

Meet Your Instructor Josslyn Meyers:

I grew up on the prairies and found myself inspired by the big sky vistas, Parkland forests and lakes. During my BFA days, I was deeply inspired my

the many landscape artists who expressed heartfelt emotions and created unique and authentic worlds through their art.

It is my goal to do the same. I love the immediacy and freshness of watercolour, and the transformation and textures of washi collage. It is my intent

that my drawings, prints and paintings be celebrations of nature that bring a sense of peace and wonder to my viewers, that instill a feeling of connection with nature, of spirit, and of honoring our place within it.

Josslyn enjoys sharing her artistic experience and passion with artists of all levels through her classes with Ladysmith Arts.
