Jump Start Your Creativity with Heather Kent

This 4 part workshop is for anyone who enjoys art but struggles with creative blocks or knowing how to start. Through fun exercises using various materials, you'll strengthen your creativity, boost your observational skills, and discover what inspires you.

Jump Start Your Creativity Invite more creativity and fun into your life!


This course is for anyone who enjoys drawing, painting, or doodling, but struggles with ideas of what to create or how to get started. Creativity is like any of our muscles; we all have them, but they need to be exercised and used regularly to keep strong. In this course you will learn a variety of fun exercises to keep your creative brain active and motivated. You will gain an understanding of what inspires you as an artist and what keeps you from pursuing your artistic passion, and tools to overcome these blocks. Using many different materials and methods, you will develop your observational senses, curiosity and wonder, so that you can bring new ideas and joyful exploration into your artistic practice, what ever that may be.


No previous art training needed. Just bring an open mind, bravery and generosity. Students will do a number of the following drawing and painting exercises: contour drawings; blind, other hand, continuous line etc. automatic drawing slow drawing and breath work collaborative drawing rubbings finding stories in watercolour washes neorographica intuitive collage work reiteration exercises and more… depending on interest of the group


Objectives:

1. Develop an understanding of your own creative process; recognizing your demons, and celebrating you passions

2. Develop observational skills to be used in a creative process

3. Learn how to harness serendipity and spontaneity to explore new creative ideas

4. Gain confidence in using reflection and journaling to support your creative practice

5. Find joy in your creative pursuits


Each student will need to provide the following materials:

- Sketchbook

- A variety of drawing tools (pencils, crayons, pencil crayons etc.)

- A set of watercolour paints and a brush

- Watercolour paper..... I will provide everything else

About the Instructor:


Heather is a visual artist working in watercolours, acrylics and assemblages. Her career as a theatre designer and puppetry artist strongly influences her visual artwork. She holds a Masters degree in Art Education from the University of Victoria, where she researched creative and collaborative processes. Whether she is teaching, building puppets, or splashing paint around, Heather’s primary goal is to embrace serendipity and share the joy of visual storytelling.
