I shot this image during a hike through the Koksilah Ancient Forest not far from Chemainus… where the old growth trees rival those in Cathedral Grove. The towering strength of these fir trees standing tall like true sentinels of the forest are mesmerizing. I also did some architectural renderings back in the day and still have a love for perspectives such as this. I thought it would be fun to paint and try and capture the dark, mossy mammoth size and texture of the bottom trunks reaching up in to the warm light of day!
