About the Event

Creating a wearable art piece from fibres such as Merino wool and silk through the process of wet felting is a playful, meditative, creative and rewarding experience. Join experienced felter and educator, Donna L Bennett as she guides participants through the process of creating a cobweb weight scarf or shawl. A cobweb-weight felted piece is much lighter than traditional felt and, to varying degrees, has a lacey, translucent density. This workshop is suitable for those who have never wet felted before and those who have some experience but wish to expand their skill set and perhaps learn a variation on layout, design and the felting process.

Your Instructor, Donna L Bennett, is a textile artist and experienced educator who will guide you through the process and provide you with the materials needed to make a scarf that is sure to become a cherished statement piece. Extra scarf making fibre kits and felting equipment will also be available for purchase.

Note to Participants:

Although the process of cobweb felting is physically gentler than traditional wet felting, it can still be challenging on

the back as prolonged bending from the waist is required. Also, wet floor around your work space can pose a slipping hazard.

Please Bring:

  • A bagged lunch, full bottle of water, and caffeinated beverage (if you like)
  • Clothes you don’t mind getting wet (a water repellent apron is an option but not essential); Do not wear clothing with loose, dangling sleeves
  • An old bath towel and a large bag for taking your wet felted piece home in (it will still be wet at the end of the session)
  • Optional: ear protection (such as small ear plugs) because we will be using power tools
